Lemosho Route – 7-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

Start your trek through rich rainforest. Watch for colobus monkeys as you hike 3–4 hours to Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Ascend through forest and into moorland. Cross the Shira Ridge and arrive at Shira 1 after 5–6 hours of trekking.

Day 3: Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

Traverse the Shira Plateau with expansive views. This is a shorter day — 3–4 hours — allowing for acclimatization.

Day 4: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp (3,960m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

Climb high to Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” day takes 6–8 hours.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Challenge yourself on the Barranco Wall, then enjoy a scenic trek to Karanga Valley. Hiking time: 4–5 hours.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Ascend to base camp. Rest and fuel up for your midnight summit push. A relatively short day — 3–4 hours trekking.

Day 7: Summit Uhuru Peak (5,895m), then descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Start at midnight and reach the summit at sunrise. Celebrate your achievement, then descend through alpine terrain to Mweka Camp. Total trekking: 12–14 hours.
